Rheem R802VA07542117MSA Error Code T117_F: Detect RPM Motor Failure
What Does Code T117_F Mean?
Fault code T117_F on the Rheem R802VA indicates that the IFC has detected the blower motor RPM does not match the commanded target speed. The R802VA uses a constant CFM ECM (electronically commutated motor) blower; the IFC sends a speed command to the motor and monitors the feedback RPM signal. When the actual RPM deviates significantly from the target, T117_F is set.
The T (troubleshooting) prefix means this was observed intermittently rather than as an ongoing locked-out condition. However, incorrect blower speed means the furnace is not delivering the designed airflow for heating or cooling, which affects comfort, efficiency, and the thermal loading on the heat exchanger.
Common causes include worn motor bearings that cause speed instability, a failing ECM motor control module that cannot maintain commanded speed, a dirty or unbalanced blower wheel that creates load fluctuations, or wiring issues between the IFC and the motor module. Because ECM motors have the control electronics physically attached to the motor body, diagnosing whether the motor winding or the module is at fault requires professional testing.

When to Call a Professional
Contact a licensed HVAC technician if:
- Schedule a service call — diagnosing and repairing an RPM-faulty ECM blower motor requires a qualified HVAC technician
- A technician should determine whether the motor winding, the ECM control module, or the blower wheel is causing the speed issue
- If left unaddressed, RPM instability can progress to complete motor failure (A117_F or A061_F)
