How Bryant Furnaces Display Error Codes

The control status indicator LED displays diagnostic information. CONTINUOUS OFF indicates no power. CONTINUOUS ON indicates the control has 24 VAC power (normal standby). RAPID FLASHING indicates line voltage (115 VAC) polarity is reversed. Each of the following status codes is a two digit number with the first digit determined by the number of short flashes and the second digit by the number of long flashes. Stored status codes are erased automatically after 72 hours.

DIY-Friendly Bryant Error Codes

These error codes on Bryant furnaces are commonly resolved by a careful homeowner without a service call — typically by cleaning the flame sensor, checking filters, or inspecting the exhaust vent. Always turn off power and gas before attempting any repair.

High-Severity Bryant Error Codes

These codes indicate conditions that prevent normal furnace operation or involve safety-relevant components such as the gas valve, heat exchanger, or inducer motor. Most require a licensed HVAC technician to diagnose and repair safely.

About Bryant

Bryant Heating & Cooling traces its roots to Bryant Heater Co., a company founded by Charles Bryant and based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The brand became part of Carrier Global Corporation in 1955, when Carrier merged with Affiliated Gas Equipment, Inc., the parent company that owned Bryant Heater Co., along with Day & Night Water Heater Co. and Payne Furnace & Supply Co. That acquisition significantly expanded Carrier's residential heating product lines.

Carrier itself was founded on June 26, 1915, in Syracuse, New York, by Willis Carrier, the inventor of modern air conditioning. Carrier was acquired by United Technologies Corporation in 1979. In April 2020, Carrier was spun off from United Technologies as an independent publicly traded corporation on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CARR. As of 2025, Carrier reported revenue of $21.7 billion and employed approximately 47,000 people worldwide.
