Bryant 315AAV Error Code 14: Ignition Lockout
What Does Code 14 Mean?
Status code 14 on the Bryant 315AAV is an ignition lockout. The integrated furnace control made four consecutive attempts to ignite the burners and prove a flame, and all four attempts failed. The control locks out and auto-resets after 3 hours to prevent repeated unsuccessful ignition attempts from creating unsafe conditions.
The service documentation directs diagnosis to code 34 (ignition proving failure), which is the active fault that accumulates toward a code 14 lockout. The three most common causes are a dirty or faulty flame sensor that cannot detect the flame after ignition, a failed hot surface igniter that does not heat adequately to light the gas, and a gas supply issue such as a closed manual gas valve or insufficient gas pressure.
A technician will typically check the flame sensor rod for carbon buildup first (it can be cleaned with fine steel wool), then test the igniter for correct resistance, and verify gas pressure at the manifold is within the specification for the 315AAV. The lockout will clear on its own after 3 hours, but running the furnace through another cycle without addressing the cause will result in another lockout.

When to Call a Professional
Contact a licensed HVAC technician if:
- Contact a technician to diagnose the ignition failure — a dirty flame sensor, failed igniter, or gas supply problem must be identified and repaired
- If the furnace relocks out after the 3-hour auto-reset, the fault has not been resolved and requires professional service
