What Does Code 15 Mean?

Status code 15 on the Bryant 315AAV is a blower motor lockout. The integrated furnace control attempted to start the circulating blower but the motor either failed to reach 250 RPM within the required startup time, or failed to communicate with the control board. The lockout auto-resets after 3 hours.

The service documentation notes that code 15 is related to code 41 (blower motor fault) — code 41 is the active fault that is triggered each cycle, while code 15 is the lockout that occurs after the fault has repeated enough times to warrant a lockout. The Bryant 315AAV uses an ECM (electronically commutated motor) for the circulating blower, which communicates digitally with the control board. A failure in this communication or in the motor's ability to start results in code 15.

The two primary causes are a failed or seized blower motor that cannot reach operating speed, and loose or damaged wiring between the control board and the blower motor that prevents proper communication. An HVAC technician will check the wiring harness at both the motor and board connectors and test the motor for correct operation.
