Rheem R802VA07542117MSA Error Code A117_F: Detect RPM Motor Failure
What Does Code A117_F Mean?
Fault code A117_F on the Rheem R802VA is the alarm-level (persistent) counterpart to T117_F. It indicates that the blower motor RPM failure is an ongoing condition rather than an intermittent one. The IFC has detected the motor is continuously unable to achieve or maintain the target speed, triggering the A (alarm) classification.
The R802VA uses a constant CFM ECM blower that receives speed commands from the IFC via a PWM signal. The ECM motor continuously monitors its own RPM and reports back to the IFC. When the motor cannot match the commanded RPM persistently, A117_F is set. This condition prevents the furnace from delivering proper airflow for heating, cooling, or continuous fan operation.
With a persistent RPM fault, the motor's ability to circulate air reliably is compromised. The ECM motor module (the electronics bolted to the motor body) is the most common point of failure when RPM feedback is continuously incorrect. Motor winding failure and bearing wear can also produce this symptom. Unlike T117_F which may recover on its own, A117_F indicates the fault has been confirmed as an active ongoing condition.

When to Call a Professional
Contact a licensed HVAC technician if:
- Call a technician — the blower motor or its ECM control module needs professional diagnosis and replacement
- A technician should test the motor module and winding separately to identify the specific failed component before ordering parts
- Do not delay service — a blower motor with a persistent RPM fault can fail completely, potentially causing overheating if the furnace runs without adequate airflow
