Lennox EL296UHV Error Code E 295: Indoor Blower Motor Temperature Too High
What Does Code E 295 Mean?
Error code E295 on the Lennox EL296UHV indicates that the indoor blower motor's internal temperature has exceeded its safe operating limit, causing the motor's built-in thermal protector to trip. This safety device shuts down the motor to prevent permanent damage from overheating.
Blower motors overheat for several reasons. The most common is restricted airflow — a severely clogged air filter, closed registers, or collapsed ductwork forces the motor to work harder and generates excess heat. Worn motor bearings create additional friction and heat. An aging motor with degraded windings may draw excessive current, producing more heat than it can dissipate. Running the motor continuously in extreme conditions can also push it past its thermal limits.
The error clears after the blower demand is satisfied and the motor cools down sufficiently for the thermal protector to reset. However, a motor that trips its thermal protector is showing signs of stress that will likely worsen. A technician should check the motor bearings, measure the amp draw, and evaluate whether the motor needs replacement.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a licensed HVAC technician if:
- The blower motor has tripped its thermal protector
- The motor runs but sounds strained or smells like it is overheating
- E295 recurs even after checking the air filter and airflow
- The motor bearings need professional evaluation
