Lennox EL296UHV Error Code E 114: Line Voltage Frequency Out of Range
What Does Code E 114 Mean?
Error code E114 on the Lennox EL296UHV indicates that the line voltage frequency is outside the acceptable range. The furnace expects standard 60 Hz power (standard for North America). When the frequency deviates significantly from 60 Hz, the control board cannot reliably time its operations and triggers this fault.
The most common cause is operating the furnace on a portable generator that does not produce clean 60 Hz power. Inexpensive generators can have frequency fluctuations, especially under varying loads. Inverter generators typically produce more stable frequency output and are better suited for powering sensitive electronics like modern furnace control boards.
Utility power frequency issues are extremely rare but can occur during major grid disturbances. The alarm clears automatically 5 seconds after proper 60 Hz power is restored. If you need to run the furnace on generator power, use an inverter generator rated for the furnace's wattage requirements.

When to Call a Professional
Contact a licensed HVAC technician if:
- The furnace shows E114 while connected to utility power (not a generator)
- You need help selecting an appropriate generator for your furnace
- The frequency issue persists after switching back to utility power
