Lennox SLP98UHV Error Code E 294: Combustion Air Inducer Motor High Amp Draw
What Does Code E 294 Mean?
Error code E294 on the Lennox SLP98UHV indicates that the combustion air inducer motor is drawing more electrical current (amps) than its rated specification. The inducer motor is responsible for pulling combustion gases through the heat exchanger and pushing them out the exhaust vent. When it draws excessive amps, it is working much harder than it should.
High amp draw in a motor almost always indicates a mechanical problem. The most common cause is worn-out motor bearings that create friction and resistance. As bearings deteriorate, the motor draws progressively more current trying to overcome the added friction. Eventually the motor will fail completely if not replaced.
A technician should measure the inducer motor's actual amp draw and compare it to the rated specification. If it exceeds the rating, the motor should be replaced. The technician should also check the inducer housing and wheel for debris or damage that could be adding load to the motor.

Contact a licensed HVAC technician if:
- The furnace displays E294 and the inducer motor sounds unusually loud or strained
- The inducer motor runs but the furnace locks out before ignition
- You hear grinding or scraping noises from the inducer motor area
