Lennox SLP98UHV Error Code E 207: Hot Surface Ignitor Sensed Open
What Does Code E 207 Mean?
Error code E207 on the Lennox SLP98UHV indicates that the hot surface ignitor circuit is reading as open, meaning the ignitor has either cracked, burned out, or has a broken electrical connection. Without a functioning ignitor, the furnace cannot light the gas burners.
Hot surface ignitors are made of silicon carbide or silicon nitride and glow extremely hot (around 1800-2500 degrees Fahrenheit) to ignite the gas. Over time, the repeated thermal stress of heating and cooling cycles causes the ignitor element to become brittle and eventually crack or break. This is a normal wear item that typically lasts 3 to 7 years depending on usage.
A technician will measure the electrical resistance of the ignitor to confirm it is open or out of specification. If the resistance reading is infinite (open circuit), the ignitor needs to be replaced. The technician should also inspect the wiring and connector to rule out a loose connection as the cause.
