Lennox SLP98UHV Error Code E 126: Internal Control Communication Failure
What Does Code E 126 Mean?
Error code E126 on the Lennox SLP98UHV indicates a failed internal communication between the microcontrollers on the control board. Modern furnace control boards contain multiple processors that coordinate different functions — one may handle the ignition sequence while another manages blower speed and communication. E126 means these processors can no longer talk to each other.
This is a hardware-level failure within the control board itself, not a wiring issue between external components. It can be caused by a failed processor, a damaged circuit trace on the board, a power surge that corrupted or damaged one of the microcontrollers, or age-related component failure.
Cycling power (turning the furnace off at the breaker for 30 seconds, then back on) may clear the error if it was caused by a transient glitch. However, if E126 returns, the control board has a permanent internal hardware failure and must be replaced. There is no field repair for this type of board-level fault.
