Payne PG95ESA Error Code 32: LPS Pressure Switch Did Not Close or Reopened
What Does Code 32 Mean?
Status code 32 on the Payne PG95ESA indicates that the collector box low pressure switch (LPS) did not close or has reopened during operation. This switch monitors airflow through the collector box, which is part of the secondary heat exchanger in this condensing furnace.
The LPS works alongside the inducer housing pressure switch (HPS, code 31) to verify safe venting conditions. While the HPS monitors the inducer draft, the LPS specifically monitors the collector box area where condensation occurs. If the LPS remains open for 15 minutes, the furnace will lock out.
The causes for code 32 are similar to code 31. The most common cause is a blocked or restricted vent pipe or clogged condensate drainage. Because the PG95ESA is a high-efficiency condensing furnace, water produced during operation must drain freely. If the condensate drain or collector box becomes restricted, the pressure switch will detect the problem and prevent operation. Other causes include a defective inducer motor or cracked/disconnected pressure switch tubing.
Common Causes
When to Call a Professional
Contact a licensed HVAC technician if:
- The exhaust vent and intake appear clear but code 32 persists
- You cannot access or clear the condensate drain or collector box
- The inducer motor sounds unusually loud, rattles, or does not start at all
- You see water pooling around the furnace base
- The code alternates between 31 and 32, suggesting multiple pressure switch issues
