Payne PG80ESA Error Code Continuous ON: Normal Operation — No Call for Heat
What Does Code Continuous ON Mean?
When the diagnostic LED on the Payne PG80ESA control board glows continuously without flashing, it indicates that the integrated furnace control has 24VAC power and is in normal standby. There is no active call for heat from the thermostat (R-W contacts are open), so the furnace is waiting for a heating demand.
This status appears between heating cycles — after a heating call ends and the blower shuts down, or any time the thermostat is satisfied. It can also appear when the system is in cooling or fan-only mode if the furnace is paired with an air conditioner, since the air handler function operates independently of the gas heating circuit.
No action is required. If the furnace is not responding to a call for heat despite showing a continuous LED, check the thermostat settings and wiring before suspecting a furnace fault.
- No professional service is needed for this status. Contact a technician only if the furnace does not start heating when the thermostat calls for heat.
