What Does Code 1 Blink (2-sec pause) Mean?

A 1-blink code on the Ruud UGPH-07EAMGR indicates the furnace attempted to light four times, with the gas valve opening for only 8 seconds during each attempt. After all four tries failed, the system entered a one-hour lockout. During the lockout period, the blower and induced draft blower will run for 100 seconds before shutting off.

The most common cause is a worn-out hot surface igniter that no longer reaches sufficient temperature to ignite the gas. Igniters are fragile ceramic components that degrade over time and eventually crack or lose their ability to glow hot enough. A gas valve that is not opening properly can also cause this code, as can a failing control board.

After the one-hour lockout expires, the furnace will automatically attempt to restart. If it locks out again, the underlying problem must be addressed by a qualified HVAC technician who can test the igniter resistance, verify gas valve operation, and check the control board.
