Ruud U802VA050317MSA Error Code A014_F: Flame Present with Gas Valve Off
What Does Code A014_F Mean?
Fault code A014_F on the Ruud U802VA is an active fault that occurs when the IFC detects flame presence while the gas valve is commanded to be closed. This is a potentially dangerous condition — it could mean the gas valve is stuck open and continuing to supply gas to the burners even after the furnace is commanded to stop heating.
The U802VA's IFC continuously monitors the flame sensor signal. When the control detects a stuck or leaking gas valve reading, it enters a one-hour soft lockout. The one-hour period begins after the flame is no longer detected. The furnace will not initiate another heat cycle during this lockout.
A faulty flame sensor giving a false positive reading — detecting flame electronically when none actually exists — is another possibility, but a stuck gas valve must be ruled out first because of the safety implications. If the gas valve is genuinely stuck open, gas could be flowing and burning unpredictably, creating a fire and carbon monoxide risk.

When to Call a Professional
Contact a licensed HVAC technician if:
- Turn off the gas supply at the manual shutoff valve and call a technician immediately — do not wait for the lockout to clear
- A technician must confirm whether the gas valve closes fully on command before the furnace is restarted
- Do not operate the furnace again until a technician has inspected the gas valve and the flame sensor circuit
