Goodman GMVC960803BN Error Code EE0: Lockout Due to Excessive Retries or Recycles
What Does Code EE0 Mean?
Error code EE0 on the Goodman GMVC960803BN indicates a lockout caused by excessive ignition retries. The furnace attempted to ignite 3 times and failed to establish or maintain a flame, so it has shut down as a safety measure.
During a normal heating cycle, the inducer motor starts, the hot surface igniter glows, the gas valve opens, and the flame sensor confirms that a flame is present. If the flame sensor does not detect a flame within a few seconds, the control module closes the gas valve and tries again. After 3 failed attempts, the module locks out and displays EE0.
The most common cause is a dirty or oxidized flame sensor that can no longer detect the flame reliably. Other possible causes include no gas reaching the burners (closed gas valve, empty propane tank), a weak or failed hot surface igniter, improper igniter alignment, incorrect burner orifices, or an improperly connected flame sensor wire.
Common Causes
When to Call a Professional
Contact a licensed HVAC technician if:
- Code EE0 returns after cleaning the flame sensor
- The hot surface igniter does not glow orange during the ignition sequence
- The burners light but the flame is yellow, lazy, or uneven
- You hear the gas valve clicking but no gas reaches the burners
- The flame sensor appears cracked, bent, or damaged
