Amana AMSS960803BN Error Code Continuous/Rapid Flash: Reversed Polarity
What Does Code Continuous/Rapid Flash Mean?
A continuous rapid flash on the Amana AMSS960803BN's diagnostic LED indicates that the electrical polarity is reversed. The 115-volt AC power or the 24-volt control power has its hot and neutral wires swapped. The furnace cannot operate safely in this condition because correct polarity is essential for the flame sensing circuit to work properly.
This problem most often occurs after the furnace has been newly installed, after a control board replacement, or after electrical work in the home. The 115V AC line and neutral wires may be reversed at the furnace disconnect or junction box, or the orange and gray transformer wires may be connected to the wrong terminals on the control module.
A poor unit ground can also cause this code to appear, even if the polarity is technically correct. In any case, this is strictly an electrical wiring issue that must be corrected by a qualified electrician or HVAC technician. The power must be completely shut off before any wiring changes are made. Once the polarity is corrected, the LED should return to a steady on state indicating normal operation.

When to Call a Professional
Contact a licensed HVAC technician if:
- The LED is flashing rapidly and continuously — an electrician or HVAC technician must correct the wiring
- The code appeared after recent installation, service work, or electrical changes in the home
